The four Ames Brothers ruled the charts throughout the 1950's. By the beginning of the next decade, their hit-making years were behind them, yet they continued on. In 1963 with their RCA Victor contract coming to an end, RCA wanted to re-sign just Ed Ames to a solo contract, so the remaining trio split from Ed and moved to Epic Records where they cut two albums plus a few non-album single sides. This is one of those non-album sides, their vocal take on the Village Stompers' hit, Washington Square, which was also available on Epic Records. This one failed to chart for the group (and not only because it was stuck on the B side of the disc). By 1965 the trio called it quits. Ed Ames is the sole living member of the original group, and his voice is not heard on this recording. You can hear great records like this one live every night at www.topshelfoldies.org!
