The band's trademark mix of expertly crafted brutality, melody, freaky, innovative rhythms and catchy vocals is still intact, with Bart Hennephof and Jochem Jacobs's expertly crafted sonic... um... textures and the unruly heavy-hitting of drummer Stef Broks creating the perfect metal cocktail.

The climaxes of the songs on Dualism have been elevated to a higher level, partially due to the contribution of their new keyboard player, Uri Dijk and new frontman Daniel de Jongh (ex-Cilice) who, as far as his sound goes, is every bit the talent as his predecessor Eric Kalsbeek.

This world has changed

Before our eyes

We can't control

Waiting to find

Waiting here with nothing more to say

Goodbye to all I have said

Was waiting for decay

Here I am, waving to the waves

Catch the dream before we are

left inside and everything is gone

Catch the dream before someone else is

setting forth an illusive state of war

The shimmering flocks of shadows that

Surround the walls we are looking at

Mark of silence

It tells me to hide

It hides the divide

Me versus man

Bear the silence

Tell me mother how can I turn back old times

Maybe we are all asleep and die inside to taste

The urge to feel so much more

Closing all my windows to embrace

Our identities are stories

with holes in their language

Slumbering, at the height of what

Could have been synchronicity or

Parallels in multiple dimensions

Can we find any reference

In this abstract color field

This ambivalence, this dualism

Can we see the details of a bigger entity

What is the antidote

To the triviality of modern life

Find the words to completion

Take me there, where I belong

Fallen into harsh delusion

Drawing circles to my illusion

To reflect me and my diffusion

Waves keep lashing down on the old shores

Sunlight sails the soothing silence

I am spitting letters

Paraphrased in sand

My words are set on fire

.

Best band ever man. What beauty.

Interesting. Not quite what I was expecting, though I don't know exactly what I was expecting from a band with such an oxymoronic genre as "progressive metalcore" (so sayeth Metal Archives).

I like how this band has Meshuggah influences without sounding like a rip-off Meshuggah wannabe band. They have a nice fresh sound.

To me, Meshuggah was sort of an "acquired taste". I had to give this guys a few listens, before I liked them and before I recognized the diversity. Meshuggah is really good to train your ears, haha. When you listen to Divine Heresy, I advise to not only listen to the very heavy Anarchaos, but also to songs like "Darkness Embedded" (/watch?v=4Y4ZE35RnAo). The singer actually has a very beautiful voice. I also advise you listen to the whole song(s), not just 2 minutes, if you tend to do that....

I'll have to check out the artists you've mentioned. I've heard a bit of Vidhjarta but i'll give them another listen. Also will check out Divine Heresy. I should caution I'm a bit older than the average (39) and I'm pretty picky. I like Periphery, Textures, Chimp Spanner, Uneven Structure, TesseracT, etc.. (You can see the pattern here). Bands like Meshuggah (which I saw live during Tool's Lateralus tour in Florida) were interesting and still boring because it all seemed the same.

I totally agree. Even heavy-as-hell songs can have melodic parts (even if it's just some short synth-part like in Vildhjarta's "Dagger") to make them that much more heavy. Of course, sometimes a 140% in-your-face song is perfectly fine, but even those can have arcs of suspense and climaxes (think Divine Heresy's "Anarchaos"; that part in the middle is godly).

It's not just that. I've been saying for years that the clean melodic parts of songs make the heavier stuff even heavier. Dualism is a perfect example, and this song in particular. When you limit yourself to just being heavy all the time, you just sound boring (to me).

Very good song. But theres no lyrics, shit!

One Guy One Opinion

If anyone thinks that textures went soft on dualism than they obviously didnt listen to this song. It's pretty thick

Oh no I get that. It's just that when you said "stupid girly - screaming emocore" I don't think you gave "screamo" and "emocore" its due credit. Screamo isn't stupid and girly, it's actually a legit genre with groups like Raein and Ampere and stuff. I just felt like you were too dismissive of screamo/emo there and I thought I'd try to show you some emo groups that actually tear it up.
