NZ Country legend Tex Morton cut a swarthy story of a life. I don't know how I came to have a tape of this program in my possession but it should definitely be shared.

There's a good article on Tex here

and a wiki page here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tex_Morton

What wonderful sound recording on this show even after all these years. I made an appearance on this show but can't remember now what I sang. Years later I worked with Tex again at the Wandong country music festival just out of Melbourne which was the first and biggest country music festival in Australia. This man was a true showman and always looking for a poker game. He must have lived the most colourful life of any New Zealander ever.

I play with Bob Morton sometimes at the odd jam session Bob plays blues harmonica these days and he is Tex's son.

sorry, I wish I did have proper access to this sort of stuff. I got this piece when I found it had been accidentally left on a tape of some material I was given from the broadcaster. lets give thanks for sloppy tape copying operators who work for national broadcasters who hoard this material and won't let the public see it. There may well be more material of this show but until TVNZ decide to release it or another sloppy tape op accidentally hands it over it's stuck in a vault somewhere.

Tex was a great friend of my father's, Slim Dusty & RM Williams - he's so sadly missed - I hope Australia never forgets his wonderful talent. I used to listen to his old songs on my cassette player as a kid - this clip is such a treasure...he really was an amazing talent...may he Rest In Peace...

Nice to know Bob, one of Tex's sons is active in music. Great. Tex was a real neat fellow, and great friend to me.

@hankfrank09 my pleasure Hankfrank. I came across it purely by chance and I'm happy I could put it up here for us all to see instead of it languishing in some tv vault.

Good on you for posting this! Tex's son Bob Morton plays in a NSW Central Coast band called the Summerland Kings. They have a lot of fun and they do a few of his dad Tex's numbers.
