Tevin Campbell could make a song a work of art when he put his vocal talent to lyrics and this talent is what Whitney Houston had when she sung, so both are unique as singers. Nobody can sing a Whitney Houston song like her and the same thing can be said of Tevin Campbell as both had a talent for singing that is rare to find.

Tevin's voice-- the lyricism, control and clarity goes far beyond skillful and learned; he's truly gifted. His voice becomes an instrument in a song's overall composition-- an instrument that's strongly colored by emotion and imagination. Very few singers in history have had or have all those qualities. As for his singing being influenced by Michael Jackson, I find that to be an odd assertion. While Michael could sing and was a brilliant performer, Tevin's ability as a vocalist far outstrips his. The only vocal comparison that makes sense, at least to me, is Whitney Houston. There are even times when watching his performances that I see shades of Whitney's physical movements. Now, this could be because they both had a similar awareness of rhythm and it manifests in the same way-- he even taps the microphone the same way she did. His vocal runs, riffs and embellishments are also similar to hers. He doesn't ever seem to be imitating her though, so I suspect most of the vocal similarities are an affect of being gifted child singers who basically trained in the church. But, that's just my opinion.

Tevin said that he idolized Michael and asked him for some advice.Michael told him to be true to himself and to continue working hard on being the best singer he could be.True story.By the way,how many singers growing up in the 70's or 80's can honestly say they were not influenced by The King?Think about it.

Just love Tevin's voice.You can hear the influence of Michael in every note he sings. How many of the cats in the game now can vocally deliver this powerfully,precisely and beautifully,live without lip synching?Chris Brown,Trey Songz,Miguel? I don't think so. Maybe Usher or Ne Yo can.But they don't have the range and vibrato that Tevin had.
