What possessed these very fine musicians to pick this groove for this classic? Maybe it suited their style of soloing to transform the rhythm out of a shuffle into this Band of Gypsies type funk, but I'm sadly not feeling it at all until they of course start to stretch out. Listen to The Grateful Dead's version off their debut LP w/ Pigpen on vocals, harmonica & organ. If Pigpen could have "maintained" as we were inclined to say back in those days, he might well have emerged a more potent leader and taken the band in a more soulful direction. Watching Pigpen's slow demise always reminds me of Brian Jones. Perhaps they were cut from the same cloth? May they both rest in peace & hopefully enjoy some quality jams!

I like Ten Years Afters version of this classic the best! I saw Alvin in Phila. in the mid 80's. He had that same guitar from Woodstock. I am fortunate to have seen many of the great guitarists
