I'm not sure if he's ever officially stated he's struggled with an ED himself, but many of his songs outside the eponymous Me & Mia seem to hint towards it. This one always makes me chuckle for the swanky wordplay, especially the double entendre at the beginning, "It's taking all my strength to make this toast." An ode or a food item. "Made invisible and mute, but with sore throats." Mute, but sore throats from purging? He also mentions "keep my statistic around" for later reference. To me, this song always reminds me of trying to talk to my family while in therapy, trying to explain the nuances and subtle meanings that came with depression, suicidal ideation, eating disorders, and anxiety. Important, emotional, vaguely blase, and ultimately fruitless. The song lends a playful and nearly vindictive air to that for me, and it resonates.Of course, it could be about dogs for all I know. Ain't music fun that way? All the same, I love these guys for their clever lyrics and upbeat, snarky songs. It's tough to find music like this these days.
