IMHO, one of Burnett's more uneven albums, and the arrangements sound so dated now. Still, this is a good tune. Pretty catchy.

Actually, T-Bone said in an interview that she was only 4 when she came up with the lyrics. They were driving along one evening and a big harvest moon had just come up. Molly spontaneously recited the whole thing, and T-Bone wrote it all down when they got home. It's funny, the first time I heard the song I figured it was a protest song about military satellites.

@deussolinvictus I was 17 the first time I heard it, but like you, I kept driving just to hear it play out. But I had just bought the tape - I'd heard a good bit of his work with other artists as well as his being the husband of singer chica Sam Phillips (who ironically also later played the mute German blonde in Die Hard with a Vengeance).

Wow...weird comment. I, too, heard it after basic training. Actually, WAY after. I was living in San Diego, going to commissioning school, and heard it on 91X.

I really appreciate this video and song. I loved it back in 1987 when it came out. I first heard it on the radio on a late summer night after returning from basic training and enjoying the night air. I seriously drove an extra few miles to finish listening to the song and taking in all of the moment.
