Looking back at my first comment and listening back to the song, I'd say that bands like Pinback and Systems Officer will never have to worry about such things. Their music is too honest, confidently introverted, and emotionally ambiguous to appeal to any mass audience. I was riding around with some fans of mainstream crap over the weekend and noticed that pretty much every song they like is obnoxiously extroverted and aggressively 'in-your-face' in terms of its sound and emotional approach.

probably because they aren't being explosively marketed through Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, Sirius radio, and iTunes store like all those shitty mainstream acts people can't get enough of. I'm fine with them not reaching a mass appeal because the masses turn everything into shit.
