Born From A Wish

So this is just some talentless chancers trying to make money of Syd's name? hope they are riddled in debt now.

You Brits might pronounce certain words more correctly than us Americans. "Renaissance" comes to mind. Fair enough. But hearing these two say "boogie" is very strange.

Tip, find a local pub with a Sunday blues jam. Buy a pint, chuff a pipe of the good stuff, sit back, close yours eyes and pretend it's Syd on guitar. Its an irrelevant tape, there's no guitar that is trademark Syd, no glissando. Mark Sturdy says as much but is typically polite. Pick up a guitar yourself and just play E A E Bb E A E Bb E. It's only anecdotal evidence that says Syd was there. Most likely a case of mistaken identity caused by a playful Twink, gullible presenter and too much fine Paki Black, you wouldn't know from listening. I saw Syd on rhythm guitar, hiding behind Mr Screen's base to the right of Snowy at Bingley Hall March 30 1977. If you listen hard to the bootleg you can hear him with his zippo. I think he was at a few of the Animals shows.Vultures continue to pick over a corpse long after death but not as long a entrepreneurial capitalists. RIP Syd (and Rick).

This is a story about something disappearing, a tape that was made without a contract or future purpose or plan which with changing technology became redundant, and the longer the talk of the tape goes on the more it's loss or absence is made to matter because a minor contributor to the music on it. Syd was a man who backed out of everything and made himself famous for backing out, when as a solo artist he had to have a manager he tried to make his music publisher his manager, until they refused to publish any more music or manage him. Were he not so famed for being talented such a way of doing things would be seen as simple self destructive behaviour.

There seem to be plans to release the recording. But I don't expect too much from it. I think it will be a riddle in guessing which guitar is actually Barrett's. I guess it will mostly have an historic importance, whether the recording is listenable or not. Too bad, the "Stars"-tapes are still lost. According to biography 'Crazy Diamond', Barrett gave someone a box of tapes in the 1970s. This box soon got lost. The new owner visited a shop and forgot about the box. When he returned, it was gone.

OK..I'll sum up the whole video...A guy was asked if he wanted to record this Syd Barrett gig and he said yes...But because Syd was under contract it has never been published and you won't hear it on this 4.19 video either.
