This one's probably Diana's best 80s club song! I can't believe this one didn't revive Diana's career in the 80s. The fact that it's also written by Daryl Hall and John Oates makes it even more puzzling as to WHY this didn't become a huge, huge hit!

I read it was a decent hit back in 1984, and that the video was popular to the point where MTV had to play it.

One of her final hits at radio!! She was the number 1 Artist of 1981!! She did well in 80s as did many of her contemporaries. But times were changing and the industry as well. With one fell swoop all the then 40 year old artists were thrown off top 40!! That was amazing and today's young people have absolutely no concept of truckload of artists over 40 being in rotation!!

one of the best dance songs of her career. should have been a smash hit with hall and oates producing and writing, this is when the tide turned for my favorite diva. viva Diana !

Diana made a number of great recordings in the 80s, but for some reason some of them didn't get any attention from radio stations (at least not in L.A.). I always loved this song (Swept Away) and was puzzled as to why it wasn't a big hit, even though it was popular on the night club circuit. Thanks for posting this. I love this song and I hadn't heard it in years.

Who cares if this was a "hit" or a "miss" based on sales .... After all, in her own words, nothing lasts forever. Or does it? Man, swept away i was indeed. Right from the moment i played this on vinyl back in 84. Thank you for the music Diana.

Absolutely correct. Aside from the songs you already mentioned, none of her other 80s songs get any current radio play (a measure of how 'classic' a song is) unless it's some type of "forgotten 45" segment. The clubs and R&B stations were the main things keeping her alive after 1981. All the commenters get fixated on their love for Diana that they forget what was really happening in the overall music world at the time.

I can certainly hear slight similarities in the drum sequencing. However, this is one of the few dance hits that incorporates guitar rifts.
