The man doesn't just play the instrument. He paints with it.

Ok I play clarinet and that's my favorite song. I can hit the high notes but I have no idea how to do the short staccato notes. Anyone know how to do those??

Ryan Yobs: The drummer looks like Danny Barcelona, who played with the band in those days. As a jazz clarinetist myself I was not enthralled by this solo. The slap-tonguing was a gimmick and the rest was rather rigid and uninspired. Sounds like he listened to the classic Jimmie Noone version of SGB but was unable to let rip.

birdieberry, that last section was what's called "slap tonguing". Google it. I know a few guys that do it. I never thought much of it. Like Joe said, it's a "novelty".

You can still get "real" clarinets but you're not going to fine too many playing them. In Jazz that's not DixieLand or NOLA style it was abandoned for the sax.

it has 2 reasons, they don't make real clarinets anymore, and the real jazz minded people, are gone to the funk and fusion music, the real jazz is going to be forgotten, i think. i'm going to try to give you more about this player reg.Pieter

Wow! That was amazing. As Birdieberry said, I've never heard a clarinet played like that before. Joe Duren I believe was the name Louie said. I'd love to hear more of this guy!
