I find this version to be less compelling than the original. Here, the pace is somewhat plodding. In the original, with its intense strings arranged by minimalist composer Philip Glass, there is a sense of tension, urgency, fear and desperation. This version sounds resigned, as if the song was written for someone who did, ultimately, succeed in her efforts, and the memory has been clouded, calloused over, diminished. As if she's been forgotten... and, in the singer's expressionless delivery, deservedly so.
