A great song from the album, When Seconds Count.

I will no longer be posting any more songs because You Tube yanked four Steve Perry

songs off of my channel due to copy write claims. I had to answer some copy write quiz before they'd let me back on my own channel. Sorry folks but it's just now worth the trouble.

This song is one of my favorites. I played it over and over from When Seconds Count. It was way under played. It is a lost gem that was never found....

A memory very particular to me but one that I feel like sharing in light of Jim's passing: I first listened to this song back in the late '80s, loud in my Walkman, while playing Contra on my Nintendo console (the song always brings back those images!). I had bought the album days before and at that point it had been out for a while. Survivor was a bit "passé" for MTV, but I was surprised how good the album and this song were (especially for a B-side song) and how it described my pain for a lost love (by then an ocean away). Oceans was like pure magic, Jim's soulful voice, heartbreakingly longing lyrics, great harmonies and probably one of the best guitar solos ever. Musicianship at its finest. I am glad I wasn't, and I am not, the only one who appreciates this gem of a song.Rest in peace, brotha! Your raspy, melodious and powerful voice will blast through many speakers for many, many years. You fucking ruled!

Is this based on we are the champions from Queen? Some parts of the song seem to have the same rhythm?

I have to agree with your comments about Too Hot To Sleep I count myself a Survivor fan although living in the UK I haven't yet got to see them live and in my opinion that is a favourite of mine & I have just included the title track on my all time greats playlist which I have recently compiled.

"Challenge the rising tide, or drown in a sea of tears". Man, they just don't write 'em like this anymore.

Reach was great just for "Fire Makes Steel" and "Reach" alone. Both would've worked for Rocky 6, which came out that same year. I was actually a little disappointed Stallone didn't use them. The songs were so clearly meant to be used for the film. "Fire Makes Steel" would've been for the training montage, and "Reach" for the end credits.

When I first heard this song I was literally a ocean away from home and from the people I care about. It totally struck me. "When Seconds Count" is suberb. Rebel Son, Man Against the World and Oceans are so incredibly powerful , I am still amazed how could a album be so good. Too bad that Survivor broke up with a fight between themselves.
