Honey Don't was recorded in 1955 and not in 54 as shown over this video.

Carl Perkins left Sam because he thought he might follow in Johnny Cash's footsteps, who had left Sam earlier to be on Columbia. But, they didn't know how to produce good rockabilly at Columbia. Sam Phillips understood how to get a great performance out of his acts, which is why most of his SUN acts did not do as well artistically once they left the label, with the exception of Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison, who did more than just rockabilly. It can be argued that Elvis' best sides were cut at SUN

Carl Perkins could have and should have been the Next Hank Williams Mr Phillips handled him and his talent all wrong.

Why does anyone have to point fingers here and now - or ever? I think Carl's career and musical legacy came out pretty strong in the end. The car wreck didn't help his career any nor did the move to Columbia - where his music became a pale imitation of his Sun years. Phillips, like all of us, may have made some mistakes. But, he did so much for music that I find it hard to blame him for anything.

It's so silly how some people just wanna play the same old chord progressions each time. I find it so boring when they stick to 12 bar blues.
