I get that this song is a joke and self aware in how trivial it is, but that self awareness doesn't makes it's trivialities any less excruciating at least to me. Whenever I've listened to this song all I can think is, you're seriously writing a song about this shit? And the fact that it is a joke only really makes it more unnecessarily edgy and dumb. What Mark said before wasn't offensive, it was just annoying, and this song isn't offensive or funny either, it's just annoying.

I'll always admire Mark's willingness to put himself out there in his music, no matter what. Even if his thoughts are ugly and immature, it's him. He's just a person. We all feel petty and shallowly vindictive sometimes, and to attack him for this song is, I guarantee, hypocritical.

The War On Drugs didn't yet record an album as majestuous as Rollercoaster by Red House Painters, but Kozelek misses the point when calling War Of Drugs "commercial". They take mainstream influences but turn them into musical mantras just like some of Kozelek's own music. While Kozelek's lyrics are more intense, and WOD's lyrics are more hazy, nostalgic, they both address issues of dealing with depression and loss. The new diss called "Granofsky Blues" pushes Kozelek's complete misunderstanding of Granduciel, and it's a bit ironic that Granduciel refers to his music as being an expression of his recent "mental" traumas, and now he's faced with a musical "peer" who obviously got psychiatric issues of his own. It's almost harassment, or is it?

i really like Mark Kozelek. and have for a long time, he is a solid song writer and re-imagine-er. I love red house painters and the modest mouse album. Who gives a shit about the drama, musically its a good song, the lyrics are so-so....thats about it.

I don't think it was necessary to make an 8-minute video analyzing this song. Pretty sure the song itself is not meant to be taken seriously. I mean the lyrics, the painfully off-time overdub vocals, it's pretty comical. Coming to Mark's defense over the whole controversy and recording the song just came off as a bit fanboy-ish.
