I first heard "summer days" while driving along FDR drive in N.Y.I was 19years old and a sophomore in College. It was the summer of 1975.I had ridden down to N.Y.C from New Bedford, Mass., where I was spending that summer. I remember that Lonnie Listen Smith had created a moment in time for me.Till today Summer Days is my favorite song

The melodic voicing of Dave Hubbard's sax on this album influenced my playing. This is emotionally a 'happy high' sound moved briskly along with percussive energy.

Lonnie and the Cosmic Echoes were pioneers in the progressive/fusion jazz era. The group was aptly named. The sounds they produced often sounded like mysterious signals coming from outer space. Along with Charles Earland, Chick Corea, and others they introduced modern electonic innovations into the jazz idiom, creating what I called "Cosmic Jazz" but the term never caught on. I saw them once at Carnegie Hall and have four of their albums from the mid-'70s.Lonnie still sounds great today!

First heard this in 76. Fell in love with Lonnie and the name of his band (the cosmic echoes) is spot on. He is a musical maestro.... Peace and Love always,, JT
