A very haunting track, yet amazing in it's own right. Such melancholic tones are, in a way, applicable to my life. It's one of those sad songs you put on repeat when you are hurting.

John Gacy really was a tortured man.

"I am really just like him". Balsy stuff in such a sweet tender ballad.

WestSideOfJazzAfter the initial release of the album Michigan, indie artist Sufjan Stevens announced that the was going to write an album for each of the 50 states (He later admitted that it was a promotional gimmick, nothing more, nothing less), his second album was Illinoise whichwas a musical examination of "faith, family, love, and location". The album was number one in the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart, and was the highest-rated album of 2005 on the Metacritic review aggregator site, based on glowing reviews from Pitchfork Media, The Onion A/V Club, Spin, Billboard, Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, The New York Times, KEXP, and The Guardian. There has perhaps never been as haunting, and yes, beautiful a song written on the subject of a serial killer, as this one. It does not glorify Gacy, but examines him in the light of what he was - a real person who lived in our midst.

Kind of only ever saw this song as 'the controversial one' and it upset me deeply the first time I heard it. Maybe that's the point though.

They point I think many fail to realize is that the song is talking about how anybody can become him he wasn't born a monster he was made one by the enviroment he was born into. To put it into perspective would anyone be sane after being raised in a life where you were hated and messed with
