Suffocation never changed, it's the scene that changed over time. Go look up videos of their live sets from their beginning. They rarely "dressed the part". So before you go preaching trash on nothing music related do the damned research. NYDM was just bigger and badder. no need to pose for photos.

Seriously, anyone arguing that Death Metal is image obviously wasn't there for it's incarnation. There is no Death Metal look. One might've been assumed over time, but most of the legendary bands from way back when did and wore whatever the fuck they wanted and more frequently than not did not adopt the Thrash look until later.

Faggish? An adjective already exists: it's called "gay"

If you get off on criticizing metal musicians' fashion, go right ahead. One day, when you're wiser, you'll hopefully come to realize how immature and faggish your attitude really is.

But we're not talking about YOU singing in this video, are we?

"And I could care less about what you like to wear. Shorts, panties, whatever." Good; keep it that way.

Of course Chuck didn't launch the genre single-handedly (I never said that), but ANY death metal band will tell you where it started, and Chuck was the biggest spark. Death wasn't death metal, not by the standards at that time, and certainly not by today's standards. Neither Venom, nor Celtic Frost were black metal bands, but both are credited with starting that genre. Mainly because of a simple song title or concept. And I could care less about what you like to wear. Shorts, panties, whatever.

Chuck didn't launch the genre single-handedly . . . he didn't even like to think of Death as 'death metal'. You have no idea what you're talking about, kid. Have you helped popularize a vocal technique that is imitated by hundreds, if not thousands of bands the world over? Didn't think so. I prefer shorts, especially in hot weather ;) I dress for comfort and utility, but apparently, you're a dandy, and disapprove of other men's clothing...

I already stated that Chuck gets a pass on anything having to do with death metal. He launched the genre. Stop dragging his name into this discussion. His fashion statements are irrelevant to the scene today. If you want to talk about Suffocation's debt to Chuck as a musician, that's one thing. But that's about the only thing. Secondly, you have no idea "how metal" I am, so stop bullshitting. I dunno, maybe Suffocation and its fans are actually mommy-pants wearing fringe alternative death metal.

Who cares? Chuck Schuldiner, the 'Godfather of Death Metal', once wore a shirt with kittens on it to an interview, simply because he didn't give a flying fuck about fashion, whether it be mainstream or 'nonconformist'. Frank the Tank can wear a grandpa sweater for every future Suffo concert, and he will still be more 'metal' than you. Deal with it.

Well, those are valid points. But there are tons of bands in Death Metal who do NOT wear mommy jeans. In fact, I'd say the vast majority.

straight guys only rant about clothes, make up, high heels etc when they see a hot chick. appearance was never a big deal in deathmetal. NWOBM and blackmetal sure. maybe you confuse this with "blackened death".
