Decent song but it's missing a bridge and a proper ending. It's like they got lazy and ended it 2 minutes early. Poor video. Could have been so much better. Too many wardrobe changes.... It's distracting.

Just got this album. I actually like this and the Cyclorama record more than a lot of the classic stuff. This is a lot of fun to listen to!

know your Styx history folks. TS and JY were not opposed to concept albums. Many Styx albums were based on concepts throughout. JY and TS and the band were opposed to the Kilroy concept and song styles and struggled to write material for a project they didn't believe in. They were also opposed to DDY's thinking he was the final say on everything Styx. and for the record Gowan was never brought in to be a DDY clone. He was brought in because he is enormously talented and fit the more rocknroll side of Styx the remaining members wanted to pursue. don't compare Gowan and DDY. that's foolish. and for the record gowan has more musical schooling and degrees than all members past and present. enjoy the band for what they are and and want to be. more rock and less Broadway. if you want to grandiose styling of DDY go and enjoy his band. I love them both. but I for one am glad they are two separate entities. DDY would not fit with current Styx and JY and TS would not work with DDY ideas and goals

Awesome 2017 material, gentlemen! ...saw you guys on Kilroy Was Here tour San Antonio...still remember the short film showing Tommy and crew leading the revolt against Dr. (someone)...who opposed heavy metal poisoning...and I remember all the Mr. Robotos walking the stage trance-like

My review of The Mission album. I've heard it a couple times now. Not a fan of "Gone Gone Gone". Over all I think it's a pretty good effort from the band for an album made in this day of age, 2017. Cyclorama I thought was horrible, except for "One with everything". Good & bad things about "The mission". The good: return to making a deliberate attempt to actually sound like Styx at times, and throwing in a few progressive rock riffs in many places, but other styles too. Larry made a distinct effort on the instrumental "Overture" to try to copy some of Dennis Deyoung's synthesizer sound & style of playing. While no competition for the best of DDY's keyboard playing, it's a noble effort and a return to a sound Styx is known for and that fans have greatly missed. Most of the songs are listenable, unlike Cycloroma. The songs are generally half way decent, the instrumental passages decent too. The vocal harmonies on "The Outpost" sound very much like those on the Cornerstone album. Many analog synthesizer sounds & some organ and especially decent piano playing too. The bad: The album is greatly missing Dennis Deyoung's voice, song writing & keyboard playing. Larry gave his best effort. Most fans I believe would agree his voice is not equal to DDY. Especially while singing the verses of songs. Larry did capture the Styx sound surprisingly well on a couple of the vocal harmonies. The style & playing on this album is generally very good. Is it Styx best album since Pieces of eight? I don't think so. In fact, I'd say any Styx album from the debut through Edge of the century are better. I happened to have really like Kilroy was here & thought the songs on Edge were all excellent even if not in the style I was hoping for. This is an album I will listen to though, and for 2017 about the best we could hope for. Dennis isn't coming back, and even if he did, do we think his work at 70 would be as good as his old stuff? Doubtful. Some mentioned Tommy's singing on this new album isn't as good as his past. I'd probably tend to agree, but haven't heard it enough yet to come to that conclusion. JY's singing clearly is not as good as most of the songs of his past. Most of the guitar leads are not as memorable as many we've heard from the old Styx. Overall I'd give it a thumbs up for a 2017 effort & attempting to write the kind of music the majority of the fans want to hear. But make no mistake about it, don't expect any element of it to be equal to the classic Styx albums. If this came out in 1979, with a few exception it wouldn't be regarded so well with the fans. Still, I'm pleased with what we got for 2017.

I seriously don't get why people have a problem with Larry Gowan and his voice. The motherfucker kills it here. And his voice is very similar to that of George Harrison. That's a rarity in and of itself! A voice like that can deliver not only Styx's trademark harmonies but also Queen inspired harmonies as well.

The whole CD is great. Classic Styx sound, while still having a 21st century vibe to it. And with out boring, syrupy, ballads, or show tunes.

Larry Gowan almost has the identical haircut he had in his first video for his first major single, A Criminal Mind.. Only difference is that the one from1985 is a mullet..Hilarious how style comes full circle..And what the fuck is up with Tommy Shaw ?Has this guy found the fountain of youth ?? He looks like he walked out of a time machine from 1977 ! Guys still sound great !
