When the Stray Cats rolled into Montreux in July 1981 they were one of the hottest properties around. They had 3 hit singles and a UK top 10 album already under their belts along with a string of headlining concerts, all of which had come since their relocation from New York to London in 1980. The band's combination of original songs and rockabilly classics with a punk attitude and style had caught the moment to perfection. Added to this were their considerable musical accomplishments and knack for songwriting. All in all it was a heady concoction and the crowd in Montreux reacted with near hysterical excitement, something rarely seen in what is usually a polite and reserved audience. This is the Stray Cats at their peak. Simply unmissable.

I LOVE AND APPRECIATE HOW BRIAN KEEPS EDDIE COCHRAN AND Gene Vincent's tunes alive......what a magnificent singer and guitarist...Love Brian!One thing, I think his bass player COULD get a smaller bass....he doesn't need the "Look at me I can play BIG ONE"...........he would be just fine with a small bass.9 years ago

Got laughed at at school when I tried to point out how amazing they were when they first turned up in uk.Seeing this video now makes me realise how right I was. Rockabilly and punk energy inventive and fun.Like all the best music, they worked it all out for themselves. Makes you realise rock is dead now, there is no room for inventive outsiders to create new sounds to thrill us with ,its allTv driven and tv wants a guaranteed audience which means just repeating endlessly what worked before.9 years ago
