This track used as the last track on 'Bursting At The Seams' instead of 'Thank You' and the album would have been perfect.

Yes, indeed! Am a fan of that fella! As a Bowie fan, I was a bit appalled to realize that these dudes are TAKING A BASH at bowie rather than praising him

They are taking a BASH at rock-n-roll's Thin White EMPEROR?

It has been ages since I heard this. Brought back all those memories of the "single" days. Great once again

One can also hear a bit of Blue Angel in the guitar breaks in this song. Actually, this is one of DC's better efforts.

I don't think they meant to take the piss out of him at all. Poor Jimmie Wilson, Bowie did the mime work for this song so I think it may have been their way of acknowledging David. The Strawbs were not exactly pop fodder at the time and were treading the boards on the sliver side of stardom as was Bowie so likely David Cousins felt a certain empathy with David Bowie. Could be completely out to lunch but you would have to ask David Cousins for his explanation.

.................and it was only the B side of their single 'Lay Down' which was also an amazing song. Ironically I think this track played a major part in turning many Strawbs fans onto the incredible work of David Bowie. It evidently did to me and my mates that were hanging about street corners waiting for some sort of revolution to happen. Then it happened from every angle. Jean Genie took a walk on the wild side and with all the young dudes they carried the news.

To be honest most people were big Strawbs fans when this came out and Bowie was just starting to become a 'big cheese' so I recon Strawbs thought they'd take the piss out of this girly boy emerging into their limelight. Just remember we had never seen ANYTHING like David Bowie before so none of us knew then what an amazing genius he was to become. Strawbs were pretty amazing themselves and apart from the silly digs this was actually a great song.

Actually...The Strawbs were not fans of Bowie's. In fact they didn't really like him because their producer left them to go produce Bowie...They made this song as a dig to him.

@DanBlabbers Woop! I love meeting Bowie's younger fans... There are so many of us but people think we don't know who he is because we're so young! His memory will live on in rock history i tell you :P
