Strawberry Hill - Red House Painters. From album 'Rollercoaster', recorded Summer 92 to Spring 93. Vocalist Mark Kozelek. Label, 4AD. Chorus supposedly sung by a random group of strangers off the street. Brilliant, moody song.

Playing this after 1am, but I don't give a shit. This is my song of comfort and I want to fall asleep to it. Either that or Funhouse. Both are awesome.

This song is amazing. One of the best songs on Rollercoaster. Underrated band and album.

"I hadn't heard ['Rollercoaster'] in years, and though there are some beautiful things I had forgotten about -- a delicate piano in "Things Mean a Lot," the way the band brings life to "Brown Eyes" midway through, and the chorus of "Strawberry Hill," which was sung by a group of strangers we gathered from outside the Divisadero Street studio where we were recording -- what I remembered most, even when I look at the album's cover, is nine months of worry." uhhhhhhh

Screw 4AD for ruining the song, and the album. It shows you that the record company will fuck up an artist's work with senseless crap, like a choir of random people and a piano on Things Mean A Lot, WITHOUT Mark's approval.

I wish I was still to discover that world. To me, Red House Painters and Low are finnest in the genre.

Only just heard of this band and the terms 'sadcore' or 'slowcore'. I really need to check this stuff out, love this song.

The off setting guitar at the beginning is somewhat... unsettling to the atmosphere of the pic. I love it!

Mark is one of the best songwriters of our age. He is underrated and overlooked. Unfortunately it might take his death after a years of writing for people to get it. He is beyond anything that has been to date. This song still moves me in a way that know other does.
