Here is a quick demo of the Fender Stratocaster 5-way switch. Alot of first time guitar buyers have been emailing me about this so I thought I'd shoot a quick video. http://www.300guitars.com/

I have a Mexican strat and the switch seems straight forward, but how does it connect to the two tone knobs.

I just got a new Strat and I had no idea how to use the switch.  Billy's video was great. He explained how the switch works and the sound each position creates.  Thank you Billy.

Billy, great video here even fr someone who's been playing all his life. Can you recommend a site where a detailed instruction is given for replacing worn out 3 position strat switch for a 5 position switch. Thank you Robert

Hey Billy, Please tell me about changing out my Start bridge pickup for a Seymour Duncan Hot Rail. Is it much better or about the same as any combination of original 3 pickups? Thanks

Good video but an explanation of the tone and volume controls would help too.

Is it bad if the switch is kinda loose when you use it?

The pickups actually are out-of-phase in position 2. Now, they are not 180 degrees out of phase, the way switching wires/flipping a phase reverse switch which make them. They are only about 10 degrees out-of-phase. This is because, although the pickups are wired as if they were in phase, the bridge pickup is at an angle compared to the middle pickup, causing certain frequencies to cancel out more than others.

@300guitars I have test the neck pick up with a ohmeter and the neck pick up was dead. I have bought a new one and installed them and all works good now thank you for your advice.

@happycanada2003 It sounds like there is a problem with the switch or the pickup. Is the sound you get from the neck pickup as loud as the other two pickups..? You can see if the switch is working by unsoldering the neck pickup wire on the switch and resoldering the middle or neck pickup in it's place. You can test the pickup with an ohmeter. Let me know the results.. -Billy

Hey Billy i have installed two brand new single coil Seymour Duncan Alnico II Po Staggered Aps-1 for strat with one RwRp for the middle pick upf in my old guitar with a 5 way switch. I got a seymour duncan George Lynch in the bridge pick up position. When i put the switch in the position1 the neck pick up, the sound seem to be not louder than the others position 2,3,4,5, and when i tap on the pick up with a screwdriver that not make a sound louder than in your video. What can be the problem?
