I am so happy I grew up in the 90s. I was always into music growing up and even though I was only 10 in 1991, I still remember watching Smells Like Teen Spirit and being blown away. For that decade (and still now), I have vivid and awesome memories of hearing AIC (my favorite), Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden (Cornell is my favorite singer), STP, Pearl Jam, and Nirvana for the first time and wearing out the tapes and CDs I bought because I listened to it so much.I was in Middle School when I heard the news about Kurt's death and went to school that day with RIP Kurt written over my arms and hands. My friends and I were so shocked and sad with the news, we skipped a couple of classes so we could talk and share the impact of Nirvana on us and the music world. When Layne died in 2002, I cried both being sad to lose a great talent but also knowing he was finally at rest and his addictions could haunt him no longer.I know everyone says the generation of music they grew up in is the best, but I firmly believe the 90's is one of the greatest decades now and forever. I still love music to this day but the absolute crap that goes for music now is so sad.Tapes and Cds are now a thing of the past, but I still wear out the digital versions of these artists today. Listening brings so much nostalgia but it is also a reminder of how much emotion went into these songs something you don't get with today's autotune nonsense. My only regret is that because I was younger in the early 90s and lived in a small town growing up, I never got to see the band's live during that period. Never seeing AIC live is a hard one for me because I have such a personal connection to their music. I will never see them live because hearing Will singing (and screwing up the lyrics - search for it) Nutshell is a travesty of the highest proportions.I will always teach the future generations about the 90's because the saddest thing to me is that one day people will have never heard of Weiland, Vedder, Cobain, Stayley, Cornell, etc.

but wait, now for the punchline: so why is nirvana so overrated? well maybe becouse you didnt say "nirvana" no you sayd "cobain" hmm so what are the other band members names again? you know howmany 'nirvana is overrated' discussions there are on youtube? over thousands an the endconclusion Always comes down to the fact that nirvana is and will always be an overrated band. doesn't matter if they changed music becouse alot of other bands did the same thing. good day sir

and then another thing, bands like stp, smashing pumpkins, tool, alice in chains and soundgarden knocked mj off the top too. we have probably watched the same documantary. i respect nirvana and i like their music but saying they were at the same level as other band is ignorant as hell. rolling stones even set cobain at #14 in the top 100 guitarists of all time. now how about that? nirvana may be a good band but they're nowhere compared to the little lists that came up in the comment chain.

you know that i wanted to talk with you in a normal discussion but becouse of that last thing it became personal. becouse you see not all of you fucking youtube fuckers are english. some are dutch and in holland we spell lieutenant as luitetant so fuck the fuck off you fucking bastard. your a worthless piece of shit for talking to people like that. + nirvana just had a big hit bocouse they were the first to arrive with the new sound. if core would have came out in 1991 things would be different

Yes, they had luck. Over-rated.. not really. Ask any rock historian--Nevermind changed the game. It knocked MJ off the top. That's all there is to it. Learn how to spell lieutenant correctly and then I might give you some more credibility genius.

nop, they didnt. nirvana was one of the many bands in the scene and had pretty much just some luck. i mean i like their music but they are overrated and if your childish to admit that you can just get outta here, nirvana got big becouse at its climax kurt cobain died. same thing happened to cliff burton. look it up and you will understand why. pretty much every rock fan with a medium sized brain will agree to this.

no seriusly just no. nirvana was way overrated. pearl jam too actually, its a shame bands like tool, smashing pumpkins, primus and soundgarden suffered from that. tough they are good bands

well there are alot of bands who tie with me. alice in chains, stp, pearl jam, primus, nirvana, tool, soundgarden, porno for pyros, smashing pumpkins, fishbone and collective soul. i mean, you cant compare these bands. music in the 90's was just great and without any of these groups a little of that spirit would be gone. i must say that i like 'em all equally. especially the first 7 i mentioned. you should actually check them out

If you can say any one band in particular is "the best" you need to expand your music awareness.

Dredmon

Agreed. Grew up with both of them, and none compare among their contemporaries. Not to say the other bands of the era are bad, far from it, but they pale in comparison to Alice and STP.

In their primes, all three are equally "the best" Weiland's prime, and Layne's prime were shorter than Eddie's is all

for me Pearl Jam>Alice in Chains>STP..... but thats only because of personal connections... Not talent wise or songs... all = to me in that department
