Because it's not a translation. Not only the title he changed, but the lyrics too, although some parts are very similar. I guess Sting wanted to do something a little more personal, since he had already done a cover of Little Wing in english with The Police. Listen to "Pequeña ala" (which is the translation of "Little Wing") by Pappo, one of the greatest Argentinian guitarists of all time. It's a great version and the lyrics are much more similar.

I never understood why the title of the Jimi Hendrix song "Little Wing" translates into Spanish as "Mariposa Libre", which means "free butterfly"...which is not the name of the song in English. There is a perfectly good word in Spanish that expresses the idea of "little wing", and that is "alita". "Alita" literally means "little wing", so why isn't this used as the name for the song in Spanish? I guess some mysteries will never be solved.
