Mad About You - StingA stone's throw from JerusalemI walked a lonely mile in the moonlightAnd though a million stars were shiningMy heart was lost on a distant planetThat whirls around the April moonWhirling in an arc of sadnessI'm lost without you.I'm lost without youThough all my kingdoms turn to sandAnd fall into the seaI'm mad about you.I'm mad about youAnd from the dark secluded valleysI heard the ancient songs of sadnessBut every step I thought of youEvery footstep only youAnd every star a grain of sandThe leavings of a dried up oceanTell me, how much longer? How much longer? They say a city in the desert liesThe vanity of an ancient kingBut the city lies in broken piecesWhere the wind howls and the vultures singThese are the works of manThis is the sum of our ambitionIt would make a prison of my lifeIf you became another's wifeWith every prison blown to dustMy enemies walk freeI'm mad about you.I'm mad about youAnd I have never in my lifeFelt more alone than I do nowAlthough I claim dominions over all I seeIt means nothing to meThere are no victoriesIn all our histories, without loveA stone's throw from JerusalemI walked a lonely mile in the moonlightAnd though a million stars were shiningMy heart was lost on a distant planetThat whirls around the April moonWhirling in an arc of sadnessI'm lost without you.I'm lost without youAnd though you hold the keys to ruinOf everything I seeWith every prison blown to dust,My enemies walk freeThough all my kingdoms turn to sandAnd fall into the seaI'm mad about you.I'm mad about you

thanks for responding. I'm actually a very tolerant person. But I had put Sting on a pedestal, believing he was above such base opinions. Secondly it's been one of my favorite songs of his for years and part of me broke when I learned what it was written about. I had imagined something much more innocent. Of course artists have every right to be inspired by whatever they want. I'm a poet and write some dark and twisty stuff. I guess I'm just not always ready for the raw truth especially when it comes from my favs. Call me naive but in this sad often depressing world I do want to believe in the happy ending. There's often little else to cling on to. I appreciate your opinion! Cheers!

Actually the inspiration for this song has brought sting down several notches in my opinion of him. Why would he like the story of a king who abuses his power to kill an innocent man and thus free his wife for himself. In Psalms he was seriously regretful and he paid a great price, the death of his beloved son Absalom.

No better lyrics for the yearning of love and desire "But every step I thought of youEvery footstep only youEvery star a grain of sandThe leavings of a dried up oceanTell me, how much longer,How much longer?"

I was lucky enough to see Sting on The Soul Cages tour where he played this song. I've seen him twice since then and he didn't play it either time.

this should be remastered or whatever. One of the best performances ever imo. Dear Lord, the musical talent here...
