The master architect, Sting! Such structure...the likes of a love affiair. With low profile playfulness, foreplay and then orgasmic ending! Only Sting has numerous ways the send the same message!

When Sting embarked on his solo career, he didn't throw his tenure with the Police out the window; on this live double album from his Dream of the Blue Turtles tour, he reworks some odd selections from his old band's catalog in the expansive, jazz-inflected style of his new crew (which included saxophonist Branford Marsalis). These performances emphasize showmanship (solos, backup singers, and all) and they've got lots of crowd-pleasing moments, like the overwhelming swell of "I Burn for You" and a Caribbean clap-along on a medley of "One World" and "Love Is the Seventh Wave." But Sting's raw-steak voice has been affected by his band, too, and his phrasing on the quieter torch songs draws cleverly on jazz traditions.

This is what I call a great song. No matter which version (Sting with Last Exit, The Police or Sting with The Blue Turtles Band here) the is just that...great.

I saw this film in the movie theatre in 1985 and it made a huge impression on me as an 8th grader. The song that hit me the hardest was Russians. Believe me when I say to you I hope the Russians love their children too. And it showed real footage of his wife giving birth to a son. It is a very powerful movie, much more substantive than just live concert scenes.

I first saw this film on HBO or Showtime a year or two after it came out. Omar Hakim had my jaw on the floor. And I love how all through the solo, he never misses a beat with that hi-hat.

I can't decide which version of I Burn For You I like best. Guess it depends on my mood. First heard the song in Brimstone and Treacle and spent months trying to find the Police version.
