Once again - Sting has stung! Beautiful interpretation of Warlock's carol. What a haunting melody - prefer the choral arrangement, but if its Sting - it's all cool. The string arrangement here - wow! Only thing that was distracting was the snare drum.

I love all kinds of music - but this example of MUSIC is art song. But I wouldn't expect string quartet at a disco. Lots could do better.

I've had years of singing lessons, stuffy, and in my experience there are two kinds of singers. One is the kind who learns to love all sorts of music and is delighted by diversity in music, whether it adheres to my particular teaching or not. That's me. The other kind is the stuffed shirt who thinks his experiences are the be all and end all and gives him license to moan and criticize and fantasize that he could do better. That's you.

@jillgivler I am saying much the same thing as everybody else. I have had plenty of singing lessons thank you and have enjoyed all the opportunities a knowledge of singing has brought me. I would recommend that you have singing lessons but frankly the money would be wasted on you.

@georgebur Hmm - perhaps you should get a singing teacher, so you too can become a millionaire many times over like he has. Said it before and will say it again - those who can, do. Those who can't, piss and moan on Youtube. You pompous poof.

I love Sting's singing. He sings from his heart and always has. One of my favourite things about hearing a beautiful, natural singer like Sting is that we can really remember that folk music is sung by FOLK. not a bunch of damn overeducated music snobs. Whom, by the way, I would challenge to listen and find ONE NOTE Sting missed in this song. That's right - not even one.

Sacrilege!!! A complete disaster from the opening words. A complete waste of bandwidth. In popular music, we forgive the occasional ugly notes, but in this performance I struggle to hear one musical vocal sound. Does Gordon ever listen to himself on a dictaphone as he prepares a song. There are ways to get a more pleasing result - getting a singing teacher for example. Disaster!!

This song makes me think of being on a sailing ship on the ocean on Christmas Eve. Don't know why. It's lonely somehow but beautiful.

Appalling. Peter Warlock must be spinning in his grave.

This is beautiful - the arrangement and Sting's vocal are haunting and evocative.

saxxymusician - I won't humble you as much as I could conceivably do. Composers often set the same words as another composer but to different music. This version, I can state without fear of contraception (;p) is by Warlock. The thing that really did it for me is that it sounds and is a totally different piece of music to the version that Britten did. Use the search button at the top of the page and look for the Britten one. See! Shall I wait for your apology comment? ;o)

@TJATJA1982 Actually, this is a Benjamin Britten Piece. Come on, now.
