From the If You Love Somebody Set Them Free 12". There are two mixes of If You Love Somebody Set Them Free, the album version and then this song. A LIVE version also appears on the Bring On The Night Double CD of Sting's Dream Of The Blue Turtles Tour.

Pic is of the era. Album cover pics I took look like crud so no sense stealing any others. I played the EP and used Audiorecorder to get the song into digital. Better than those version from I Shall Be Released if I say so myself. I have to give back to this awesome site for music. Enjoy!

Sting is Brilliant !

I think this at this point is the ONLY B-side or soundtrack song of Sting's that has never been officially released on CD. It's about time for a nice compilation of the B-sides!

Another day (Bring on the night,1986)Era il lato B di “If you love somebody”, ma piaceva abbastanza a Sting da cantarla nei concerti e al suo pubblico da fargli il coro, come testimonia la versione nel doppio live Bring on the night (il titolo cita ancora una canzone dei Police). L’entrata del refrain – “well it’s hard to tell the poison from the cure” – è la cosa più eccitante di tutta la carriera solista di Sting, che era appena cominciata.

OMG!!! I love this song but it always makes me feel sad...anyway THANK YOU so much for posting because I have it on vinyl and I haven't been able to listen to it in years!!! You know, Sting never sang this song at a concert and I saw him at least 8 to 10 times during this tour. It's such a great song and I wonder why. Brilliant lyrics!!!!

it is pretty cool to hear the studio version after listening to the live version for 25 years. I never knew there was a studio version until I googled the lyrics while listening to the live version & I see a link to this. The groove on the live version is soooo much better. Maybe a bit too much synth programming on the studio version. Plus it doesn't sound like Omar Hakim is playing on this version & he's the main reason it grooves as hard as it does live, especially at the end. Thanks 4 posting!

Love the additional lyrics not found on the live Bring On The Night version: "Chief of inactivity Wasted creativity Distances our revolution Silence is consent" Great lyrics. I don't know why Sting didn't sing these lyrics live.

One of my favorite songs of 1985. I didn't realize it was a "rare" track. I think this was my favorite Sting tune of 1985.

Silver Lining

I like this song but I wish Sting's voice were more prominent in the forefront. He blends it with the backing vocals - which is not always bad, but in this case I don't know. Still love the song in and of itself though. lol.
