This song is about kids living with violence, domestic violence or social violence. Jake is saying we grow up with a bit of kid in us as adults, because of defensive mechanisms. Nothing to do with valium. Just disfunctional environments.

Strange how it's taken you 1 year to come up with your wee claim the words were changed when sung live, that other fans won't even back you up one eh... :-) No one "spoke on your behalf", prove your claim by posting a video of the changed lyrics being sung live... ;-) PS: Erm... right... sure thing if I wan't to post something I'll be sure in future to ask some random numpite on the net for permission before I do... ROFLMAO

@ MadFranko008 Coz if you want to know then just ask me. Don't assume & speak on my behalf after talking down to me. Saying i've never listened to it. Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Dyslexic are you !!! reading difficulties your problem !!! :-o I've never claimed to be an "Expert" on S.L.F. and I've never seen them live either... You failed to mention that I'm not psychic either.... Not very good at guessing things are you... ;-)

Coz for a time, live he used to substitute the line to, So You Need Your 'VALIUM' Everyday. In the headlines................... But as a self proclaimed Expert. I thought you'd get that................¬¬

At a guess, because he's dealing with it and by some coincidence of language the lyrics seem to speak to it, to him. But really it has nothing to do with that, it's quite clear in context what it's about, kids in Northern Ireland growing up too fast. Having sex, going to pubs, and doing violence at a much too young age because of poverty and neglect.

Although appreciating ur comment, which was a great one btw ;-) truth is this song didnt have anything to do with valium mate, it was about growing up in Belfast, which as we all know was at the time in the middle of a monumental human tragedy. According to Jake, 'Bits of kids' is by far his favourite SLF song both in a lyrical sense & when performing it live. I saw him talking about it one time.

You know I've no idea why Saoriseabla thinks this song is about people hooked on "Valuim" (reckon he/ she has never actually listened to the actual lyrics) but he/ she also seems to fail to take into account that SLF songs were written based on the bands own real life experiences and not as some "predictions" of the future... ;-)

It already was an epidemic, just hadn't hit the middle class yet, better economic times, they weren't struggling in life as much. And it's only when it becomes a problem for the middle class that it becomes an issue.

I admire and enjoy the lyrical skills of Jake too but he didn't "predict" anything... ;-) It was a problem or "epidemic" if you want to call it that back then, and he was merely reflecting that in the words, you can't predict something that has already happened... Just because like I have already said it was not widely reported back in those days doesn't mean it was not a problem then too... I should know, I was there and knew far too many people who were hooked on prescribed drugs... ;-)
