Steve is a national treasure and thanks to recordings his music is preserved for future generations. I was fortunate to attend the dedication of the Steve Goodman Post Office, practically in the shadow of Wrigley Field, another fitting tribute.

I thought Prine and Goodman wrote this song together.

I took a flight from L.A. to Phoenix in 1976 and the members of David Bromberg's band were on the flight. They left tickets to their show that night and I hung out with them afterwards. They kept talking about a musician they admired named Steve Goodman. I had never heard of him, but went to the local record store and bought Jesse's Jig and damn near played it to death. Steve's albums were hard to find in Arizona, but I have 3. Next stop, Amazon, to see what they might have. The sound of his voice reaches right into my heart, and his subject matter made me laugh, or cry or want to sign along. RIP Steve Goodman

The best thing about YouTube is keeping the music of people like Steve Goodman alive. If it weren't for the tube, young people might not ever stumble on to his greatness.

I am a huge John Prine fan, and love his version of this song. But even though John wrote Steve's version is my favorite. Saw him live a couple of times, the "Little guy with the Big guitar". Sad we lost him so young.

I think it is save to say that Steve will be remembered by many folks. A few weeks ago, I bought the live DVD Live in Austin..... and somewhat. This morning I uploaded the full DVD on YouTube. (3 hours) You can find it here: YouTube /watch?v=--uBEfUoRPA
