I love steve earles songwriting, this is a personal favorite......... death penalty.... lets show the world that killing is wrong.... by killing people who kill people??? I also believe that people who end up killing and murdering are very obviously not functioning very well mentally..... to me i believe this would mean they have a mental ailment or disability and that should be treated not terminated. Most cases of murder and other such offenses are committed by vulnerable members of society, most of which are neglected by the very powers that are sworn to protect them.

If a mad dog bites you deal with it ,any person taking a life or destroying it should lose theirs, trust me from personal experience, as I have had family members murdered, it ruins a lot of lifes on the victims side nothings the same ever again its with you every day every hour every second so fuck the guilty give them ultimate justice and if that makes me no better, so be it.

I don't get this song......I'm a big Steve Earle fan. Hell, I can recite dozens of his songs.....But this song makes me roll my eyes every time I hear it. I'm guessing this is an anti-Capital Punishment song. But the case of Billy Austin who's robbed several "fillin' stations" and kills a man for no good reason, and mentions that he didn't make the newspaper "because he only killed one man"......then asks if I could pull the switch to execute him.........I answer "yes" every time.
