This is one of the saddest songs I have ever heard. But it is really good.

What a beautiful rendition. If you are not familiar with David Olney, you owe it to yourself to check out one of the greatest songwriters of all time!

True... Still glad he put that part of his life behind him for good.

Check out David Olney's wonderful album 'Women Across The River' to hear the stunning original!

And yet what a GREAT performance he gave here: full of gentle nuances within each lyric and tender emotions. Steve did this great song proud, IMHO.

Do yourself a HUGE favour and check out the outstanding music of David Olney. I swear the man has never written a song that wasn't TERRIFIC! :)

This was 1991 and he wasn't locked up until late in 1994. But he really started to bottom out after this. He had pretty much stopped performing by 92, then spent a couple years essentially living on the streets.

Steve was in really bad shape at the time, wasn't long until he was locked up

@starkneked I am jealous that you got to meet him- but, yes, everything I read suggests he is pretty intense and high-energy. I agree, it is great that he is still alive and making music!

I'm glad he finally slew that dragon. I met him once. He's an intense fellow. It seems to me that he takes most things in life way too seriously. I do appreciate his standing up for his beliefs and not being bullied!

@starkneked Yes - I don't think he made it to those festivals he is talking about. This is right before the wheels came off the bus, as he says.
