I don't think by doing a cover you are inviting comparisons to the original. It is more just paying homage to something great. Comparing anyone to the Beatles or JOHN Lennon is clearly impossible, so you do the best to honor the history. Favourite song from the revolver album, and i think Kelly Jones does it justice here. He's got a very unique voice and it's a nice contrast from the Beatles high tone in the original. People having a pop should go and look up there sterophonics, they're very good live and Kelly Jones is a very talented musician. Same with Noel.

You're not getting my point, man, I know video existed in the '60s, we'll always be able to watch them live. But watching a live and being there is different. Anyway, as mysterytrain3 said, even the Beatles did covers. Half of the songs of "Please Please Me" weren't written by the Beatles. Same for "With The Beatles" and "Beatles for Sale". So, expect other musicians to cover them.
