On their fourth album, Emperor Tomato Ketchup, Stereolab combined trancelike, single-chord drones with downplayed melodic hooks that allow the music to become little more than ambient tone as you listen, and yet will stick in your ear all day. The album's opening track, Metronomic Underground, is probably my favorite from the album, and The Noise of Carpet seems almost to be punk-inspired, but the final track, Anonymous Collective, is much more civil and minimalistic than most of the album. This is either sleepy-time music or work-at-a-computer-all-day music.
