Sparrow, was formed in Canada. Later morphed into Steppenwolf in L.A. Members were Canadian. Dennis Edmonton (Mars Bonfire) drummer Jerry Edmonton and Goldy McJohn were all Canadian. John Kay and bass player Nick St. Nicholas, were both born in Germany and had immigrated to Canada. Had pretty much the same line up. In L.A. record producer Gabriel Meklar suggested the name change to Steppenwolf.Later guitarist Michael Monarch and bassist Rushton Moreve joined the band later. .

They weren't formed in Canada either, the group was founded in California, the predecessor of Steppenwolf, The Sparrows originated in Canada

"Renegade" on the Album "Steppenwolf 7" is a reprocessing of John Kay's childhood or Joachim Fritz Krauledat's childhood.

Steppenwolf is a band, not one person.Regardless of where the lead singer was born, the band formed in Canada and is known for being a Canadian-American Rock band. Do some research, good day.

I saw this band in 69 when I was a pup. Ever read the book "Steppenwulf" by Herman Hesse? I recommend it.

I remember this song playing in my VW Bug when it was hitting somewhere in the top 40 when I was in college. I burnt three 8 track players out with Steppenwolf albums. :) ... Not to mention forever yanking on those stupid 8 track tapes in an attempt to tighten up the tape!

He's not from Canada. He was born in 1944 in what was Tilsit, then a part of Germany. (East Prussia) He then lived in what was East Germany before moving to West Germany. His family later immigrated to Canada. That is a German accent you hear not Canadian, nor a funny kind of American accent.
