I like this "new wave synth sounding" original versions of british 80ies pop classics.Check out the original "Temptation" by Heaven17 for instance. Also, "Being Boiled" by the Human League..

Hard to describe how much I love this song. The music from youth makes an impression like nothing else will once you're an adult. It's easy to look back on this and feel it's so cheesy and naive. But it makes you remember how you felt back then. And scrawny British musicians were always my weakness. I blame it on 80s alternative music. :) Thank you for posting this.

I doubt that Robbie Williams had quite the same allure by singing this Duffy classic.

This is a good song, but Duran Duran would never have reached the pinnacle of success that they have with this guy!! Simon LeBon's voice, looks, and songwriting, went hand in glove and meshed with John, Nick, Roger, and Andy's talent and created the magic that still is Duran Duran to this day!!

Okay so the uninteresting fact is that Robbie Williams covered it. Robbie Williams sucks so bad that one must actually have pity on the little boy. His vocal acrobatics are unoriginal compared to the eery, unique quality of Stephen Duffy's voice and musically creative experimentation. I remember Robbie Williams' horrific covers of Sinatra tunes - simply bubble gum counterfeit attempting to break into the American music scene. Williams never made it. Far more interestingly, Duffy made it with nearly a single hit: this one. I was 15 when I first heard it on 91X.
