Excellent track from the first solo LP of the former member of Pavement, released in 2001.

Julius Caesar was kidnapped by Turkish pirates. But he was 22, not 19. The Turkish pirates asked for a ransom of 20 talents of silver and Caesar demanded they ask for 50 because he was 'worth more'. Then when the ransom was paid he had the pirates arrested and crucified with their throats cut. As Larry David once said "Hey, that's Caesar for you, Crazy mixed up Julius Caesar".

Hazzardbaby - Steve Malkmus was the lead singer for Pavement which came before Cake. So actually Cake sounds remarkably similar to this man.

This man sounds remarkably similar to the lead singer of Cake. Great song though.

A wonderful song. It ought to be expanded into a long ballad with more incidents from the pirate's life and guitar riffs in the middle. IMHO, Given the full treatment it'd be like "Light my fire" and "We won't be fooled again".
