The long awaited, higher quality version of this classic, though unreleased track. Earlier versions sounded rather muddled, and full of hiss. Enjoy!

How was the audio quality upgraded on this take? Has so much more clarity than before

One of Steely Dan's rarer songs. I have not hear of it until now.

Thank you for posting. Love the raw drunken masculine style in this take and lyrics. This would have been a fine addition to Gaucho contrary to what several have stated here. Think I would have preferred it over Hey Nineteen or Third World Man.

this was considered as one of the best tracks from the gaucho sessions but it got accidentally erased by an engineer and they couldnt face starting over in view of their perfectionist attitude actually this version does not do it justice & I have heard a better version on you tube...........dan fan for approx 37 years

It's clearer, yeah, but it lacks the depth the other versions have.My least favorite of the bootlegs.

Pour Out the wine little girl / we got just two friends in this whole wide world / ciao bonjourno baby / it's been a lovely night / the wine was right / i am a refugee and i like things just the way they used to be / i'm the same damn fool that you knew years ago / so broken-hearted / one last goodbye / then i run to the second arrangement / it's only the natural thing / [ruse] steps out with no regrets / sparkling conscience and new address / then i run to the second arrangement / the home of a mutual friend / now is the time to redefine the first arrangement again / you think you understand / let me take you by the hand / i have never felt this way before / it's your thing if you say so / don't ask me coz i don't know / i don't need this heartache anymore /

I think this an absolutely stunning song, a real Fagen/Becker clasic. "Gaucho" I feel would have benefited from including both "Third World Man" and "The Second Arrangement". And then perhaps dropping one of the others. But certainly not this; I can just imagine it being given the full Dan treatment; it would have been sublime.

Damn, these leftovers are way better than the tracks that made the final cut.

I always thought the song Gaucho didn't have an interesting enough sound to be on the Gaucho album Gaucho sounded like less than filler material to me. The Dan should have replaced Gaucho with Al Stewart's Time Sausages, but kept the album name Gaucho.

They weren't released as a compilation, to my knowledge. I was lucky enough to find some of these, from a no-longer existent blog, that featured these upgraded versions of songs from that time period.

You're also not doing yourself any favors by dancing around whether you think I'm polluting your favorite band (and mine) by suggesting a connection to someone or something you don't care for. Basically you tried to do something that might work in a conversation but just falls flat on the internet. It's boring. Is it worth my time? no, but then again, dinner's not on the table yet...

I mean, do you seriously think I meant it literally? Seriously? Like, do you understand the concept of calling something that sounds really cool 'perfect' when you actually just mean 'really cool'? People do that sometimes, you know.
