Listen to the last track of the last Raspberries album.

Eric Carmen: I wrote it with the intention that "Starting Over" was going to be about a relationship but also could refer to the new band and kind of a new beginning. From that standpoint, I thought it was a fine song. Probably the very best ending of any song I've ever written. The record doesn't even do it justice because the piano got buried by some strings.

Starting over

(Eric Carmen)

Used to feel so (very) (fuckin') optimistic

Till she said goodbye

Never thought a love like ours could die

Told myself I'd never love another

All I want is friends

But when we met, I felt it all again

Though I am starting over under cloudy skies

I say hello to love I'm seeing through different eyes

And if I had a chance

To make one wish

And know it would come true

I'd start all over with you

Every evening, I would watch the sunset

End another day

Let the night time wash my blues away

Buried my romantic inclination

Deep inside of me

Till I fell for you immoderately

I remember all the good times

And the bad times spent together

Why remember all the old times

When the new times look

Much better

I was all of sixteen years old when this came out and thought it was the most gorgeous song I 'd ever heard and it still remains so. Arista Records sent me the music for the piano, but nothing could capture the melody and the orchestration more than the Raspberries could. Unlike records like Second Avenue that were better off simply played by Tim Moore over Art Garfunkel's dramatic version, I think the strings enhance the piece.

My favorite Raspberries song hands down. So beautiful. Love this group and totally agree they are seriously underrated. Love that musicians like John Lennon, George Harrison, Ringo Star, Bruce Springsteen, Kurt Cobain all LOVED The Raspberries too though and knew how amazing they were.

This is one of those songs I thought nobody else knew about. Glad to see there are quite a few other fans.

Awesome song. I was in college listening to this on my big pioneer headset...spinning the record.

This song still sounds fresh after all these years...There are plenty of bands out there that learned a thing or two from The Raspberries...

this album was Rolling Stones album of the year and for good reason, not a clam in the bunch...

For me the most touching lyrics of the prolific writing made by Eric Carmen.
