If you reduce your sugar and caffeine and get plenty of exercise, and don't stress to much about not having everything you want now (which is really a sign of mental illness) then you should be able to sleep.Simply having a plan, and working toward that plan to better yourself and others will reduce stress - without the need for addictions. Setting your sights on and working to a positive goal is enough to combat addiction.However - many find a way to sleep at night by using the wrong methods (alcohol, drugs), which do not address the stress which causes the alcoholic addiction - yes many alcoholics have unresolved psychological stresses that remain from childhood traumatic events.And then, as an adult, those stresses remain and are manifested as depression.Since this stress is related to an imbedded psychosis - only a psychiatrist can resolve the stress - but since most alcoholics are not aware that the initial stresses which cause the depression - they cannot see that their depression is caused by unresolved issues in the brain that are not identified nor resolved, then the "user" of the substance will continue to abuse themselves for a quick temporary relief. But what they are really doing is satisfying the brains ability to become addicted to endorphin release and inhibiting themselves from experiencing real life which includes real relationships with others - along with the stresses that need to be analyzed to resolve.Many decided to pleasure themselves in risky deviant behavior which will often come back and bit them hard - while they make others suffer while doing their best to hide their addictive behaviors.However, their addiction is not substance abuse related (drugs, alcohol), it is sex addiction which has gotten much worse in the world once the internet was built.Often even close friend and family cannot help a hard core alcoholic or sex abuser.Addictions are very strong - and can even cause a man to throw away his chances of having a family - as you have observed with people you know.The sick part of this is that a man that casts his family to the wind can put on a persona that he is a great guy and has a cool lifestyle.It is very easy for a single man to put all his energies into himself and build a false persona that he is a great guy - but the fact is he is not - he spends all his time attempting to convince others that he has a better understanding about life than others have - while he hides his addiction and the terrible suffering that he has inflicted on his own family.The world is full of men that attempt to self diagnose - and then decide that they need the drugs and/or alcohol to keep going.That is the addicted mind making the decision for the person who has no will-power nor expertise to help himself.And the result is a greatly reduced life experience as the brain neurons are cut-off by the alcohol or drug addiction preventing him from maintaining a relationship with anyone accept other users.
