Very rare ballad. Van McCoy and The Starlighters were a Philly doo wop group. Most people remember Van for his production work in the 60s and 70s. He was a really good singer as showcased here.

The Starlighters was a Washington D. C. group not a Philadelphia group. . This record came out in summer 1960. Van Allen McCoy was the lead singer. Van left Roosevelt H. S. in Dec 1959 to pursue a career as a singer and a song writer. He wrote and performed the Hustle in the mid 1970's. He died in 1979. I covered his funeral as the staff photographer for the Washington Afro-American newspaper..

The other side is "You're the one to blame". Good record. My copy has this title on both labels instead of "I cried" on the label. In other words, the actual record "I cried" plays but it is titled wrong.

What a song and I love all the rare Doo Wops you have. I found out about these when Youtube recommends me a song and then I click on it and they recommend again. Have many saved in my folder. Thank you for all these rare Doo Wops!!!

Asking a little much now, I feel he's done enough finding the record, paying for it, recording it and then posting it, dontcha think? The least you can do is look it it up, geez. 1959

Unfortunately I moved recently and have my discogpraphies packed. I would have to do a lot of guessing if I did that and I don't want to offer misinformation
