Performed by the great Hoagy himself.

And now the purple dusk of twilight time

Steals across the meadows of my heart

High up in the sky the little stars climb

Always reminding me that we're apart

You wander down the lane and far away

Leaving me a song that will not die

Love is now the stardust of yesterday

The music of the years gone by

Sometimes I wonder why I spend

The lonely night dreaming of a song

The melody haunts my reverie

And I am once again with you

When our love was new

And each kiss an inspiration

But that was long ago

Now my consolation

Is in the stardust of a song

Beside a garden wall

When stars are bright

You are in my arms

The nightingale tells his fairy tale

A paradise where roses bloom

Though I dream in vain

In my heart it will remain

My stardust melody

The memory of love's refrain

Star Dust is my all time Favorite Song. Hoagie wrote the Musci and a couple years later, wrote the words to stardust.

This was my parent's song. We would all sing it on a warm summer night sitting around the campfire at our weekend cabin in the Missouri Ozarks.

One of the most beautiful melodies I have ever heard performed by this genius American Composer who composed it himself. Very nice to hear and enjoy both in sung and instrumental versions. And the skill with which he played the piano is remarkable really. Very nice to hear and enjoy.

Simply beautiful. So well composed it conveys feeling and depth even if in this version there are no lyrics. Not only the composition is very good but it is very well performed too by the same composer.

A long time ago I heard that this was one of the most romantic songs of the time. And I believe it, as so many have recorded it.

Didn't really want to read all 231 comments to find out if anyone had mentioned that this song (not sure if it's the exact version) is in "The godfather 1" right after Micheal kills the Turk (Salatzo?) and the Captain (McKlusky?) as the papers (visual) roll off the press that says that Captain McKlusky was involved with the mob. Michael came up w/the idea of killing them both predicting that the news people would like a story like that foreshadowing the scene as the headlines rolled off the press.
