Hoagy Carmichael's Stardust is the greatest composition of the 20th century IMHO, even if this orchestra's arrangement and performance doesn't do it justice. Django would do a better take solo.

They didn't play the verse! They left out one of the most beautiful verses ever written.

We were watching "The Triplets of Belleville"? An amazing, cool, cartoon. I jumped out my chair and said to my wife, HEY! That's Django & Stephane! She said who? She now has a Django station on Pandora. Love it!

Gorgeous meeting of Django Reinhardt and Coleman Hawkins. Superb. Django died so young, but thankfully he recorded a huge amount for us all to enjoy decades later. Would love to go back in time and hear him play live.

Jean "Django" Reinhardt[1] (French: [dʒãŋɡo ʁɛjnaʁt] or [dʒɑ̃ɡo ʁenɑʁt]; 23 January 1910 – 16 May 1953) was a Belgian guitarist and composer of Romani heritage.[2][3]Reinhardt is often regarded as one of the greatest guitar players of all time and was the first important European jazz musician who made major contributions to the development of the genre. After his third and fourth fingers were paralyzed when he suffered burns in a fire, Reinhardt used only the index and middle fingers of his left hand on his solos and invented an entirely new style of jazz guitar technique (sometimes called 'hot' jazz guitar) that has since become a living musical tradition within French Gypsy culture. With violinist Stéphane Grappelli, he co-founded the Quintette du Hot Club de France, described by critic Thom Jurek as "one of the most original bands in the history of recorded jazz."[4] Reinhardt's most popular compositions have become jazz standards, including "Minor Swing", "Daphne", "Belleville", "Djangology", "Swing '42", and "Nuages".

Django is brilliant, but that "boom-chuk, boom-chuk" rhythm section spoils the whole song. That riff was corny even in the 30's. They should have rethought that arrangement.

These forums turn into "my tastes and generation are better than yours" nonsense. It all goes around and around; the great stuff remains, thank God, and talent still thrives here and there in different forms and venues. Django Forever!
