I'm not exactly well-versed in the more popular musical genres but this piece is one of my favorites, and I've wanted to post it for some time: the "Cavatina".
The piece had been recorded by classical guitarist John Williams, long before the film that made it famous - "The Deer Hunter" - appeared. It had originally been written for piano but, at Williams' invitation, Myers re-wrote it for guitar and expanded it. In 1973, Cleo Laine wrote lyrics and recorded the song, "He was beautiful", accompanied by John Williams. And, as it is perfectly possible to drop or add the "S" in "she", the piece was recorded by both women and men. The piece is wonderfully intimate, pretty much amounting to the singer and the bass line formed; the text is, perhaps, a tad simplistic but it does have a certain undeniable sincerity that I find absolutely delightful.
Bryn Terfel takes up the song and turns it into a true expression of a lover in pain. Hope you'll enjoy :).
