I apologize for my English. Several years ago, Luiz Eça participated in a radio program here in Rio. He said someone showed him a disc with the recording of "The Dolphin" made by Bill Evans. Initially, Eça, hated recording because Evans implemented a fast style to this music, when in fact the idea of Eça was a slow song. Boring, Luiz Eça then sent a letter to Bill Evans showing their discontent. After this, Eça heard the recording several times, changed his mind and ended up falling for the recording of Evans. Years later, after a coming Evans to Rio, the two became close friends.

Saxlive, your comment made me laugh because I was thinking the same thing: his fashion sucks, his sax doesn't. Getz is my favorite sax player for all the reasons you posted. But I try not to dress like him.

I noticed that your last name is Getz? Are you related to Stan Getz? I'm an amateur saxophonist, but Stan Getz has been my most admired sax player since I started back in high school. He's got the most perfect sound and the most lyrical lines -- and it's not just bossa, but straight-up jazz too. Thanks for sharing this here.

Really cool. The band so tight and tasteful. That is quintessential Jazz Bossa!

A minor thing but Jim's last name is McNeely and I think it is Marc Johnson ... nevertheless... it is the music that counts and Stan hits a home run every time he comes to bat.

This is a Brazilian song written by pianist, vocalist, arranger, composer and conductor Luiz Eça, leader of Tamba Trio, in the 60's. It has been recorded by a score o great jazz musicians all over the world, including Bill Evans, Stan Getz, Toots Thielemans, among others, many of them you can find here at Youtube.
