Lyrics:

I only see myself reflected in your eyes

So all that I believe I am essentially are lies

And everything I've hoped to be or ever thought I was

Died with your belief in me so who that hell am I?

I don't know if I am real without you

What is left of me without you?

I don't know what's real without you

How can I exist without you?

I'm wanderin' 'round confused

Wondering why I try

The more that you deny my pain

The more it intensifies...

I pray for someone to ache for me the way I ache for you...

If you ignore that I'm alive

I've nothing to cling to

I don't know if I am real without you

What is left of me without you?

I don't know what's real without you

How can I exist without you?

I stare into this mirror

So tired of this life

If only you would speak to me or care if I'm alive

Once I swore I would die for you

But I never meant like this

I never meant like this

no I never meant like this

I don't know if I am real without you

What is left of me without you?

I don't know what's real without you

How can I exist without you?

How can I exist without you?

How can I exist without you?

Although the title is "Shame," this is perhaps one of the best songs ever written about the projective qualities of self-loathing ... how those who suffer with these feelings often put SO much into someone else, as if they're very exists depends upon that other person's acceptance and validation. Then again, if the "other" leaves the self-loather, I suppose that's where the shame comes in ...

This song, and the others on this album were soooo dangerous to listen to during those dark depressed days of my early 20's.. listening to it now again, still holds the ability to capture that dark pain.

Awesome! This song brings back memories. I was ten when I first heard it! I knew from that moment on that rock music would be with me always! (lol) I've noticed many people on here ask if Chris is saying that about sex. (LOL) He is actually saying "How can I EXIST without you?" You can look it up or if you have The Essential Stabbing Westward. ;)

God I wish I could go back.....This is what I grew up on. I lived it. I saw them 3 times in 3 months once back then.

I knew she was lying to me about talking to a guy who treated her like shit, and I still wanted her. And despite the fact that she would use me then leave me again, I would still take her back.
