Drumming was a bit sloppy on the original but the mix wasn't as in your face which suited the style of the track.

I guess it's whatever you hear first. I missed out on the first version, because it stayed in oz and NZ at the time (1976) we only got the Manzanera version in the UK until much later. I didn't get a chance to appreciate it until I went out with my girlfriend, now wife, in 1989, soon after meeting her, for the first time, at a Tim Finn concert at Warwick Uni! I like bothe versions, but I appreciate what Phil was trying to do in creating they 'shine'.

Can't agree Lloyd, Manzanera added the extra shine!

One of my very favorites of Split Enz's so-called progressive rock era, full of innovative instrumentals and melodies. I like this version (from Second Thoughts or the UK version of Mental Notes) better than the original from the Australian Mental Notes. It's a tighter, clearer and more powerful sound, though I like the original as well.

I bought the record because of of the cover - Noel Crombies haircut. What an album it turned out to be.

This is great music. Some of the best ever. Far ahead of their time was Split Enz.
