Karl Grayson, the singer, usually did the "glug-glug" noises, most famously on "Der Fuehrer's Face".

Two fellows I remember was the one and only Mel Blanc voice actor par excellence who did a great deal of the imitations of both people and just noisy objects in general. Another member of Spike Jones 'City Slickers' was 'Doodles' Weaver, who happened to be actress Sigourney Weaver's uncle, she has mentioned that her uncle could be just as nutty off-stage as he was on-stage.

Great memories. His orchestra was really superb playing the songs straight. So clever

My Dad used to have guests over, crank up the huge stereo, put this on, and watch their faces when the "pow-pow!" began. By the bye, they were a hell of a band! This is beautifully done. That's Mickey Katz on clarinet (Joel Grey's father, Jennifer Grey's grandfather). I think he also did the "glug-glug"s.

May I request that you add I'm Forever Blowing Bubble Gum c:? I've never been able to find a complete version... hearing it on the old record really brings back memories.

True- Spike's boys could play "straight" when they wanted to (most of his personnel had previously played in commercial and studio bands, like Jones). But, as 'MNC' pointed out, very few people were interested in listening to his "straight" band [because it sounded TOO "straight"], and the "Other Orchestra" didn't last long.

@ torchsonglover I remember hearing that Vaughn Monroe really hated Spike for his version of "Ghost Riders in the Sky". I thought it was hilarious.

I've got the Spike Jones and his City Slickers on CD. I thought they were singing backwards. How can I get it to you?

I've heard a load of his stuff and have quite a bit on LP, CD and DVD, but I don't recall hearing that. I'll keep a look out for it.
