"Watching The Detectives"Nice girls not one with a defect, cellophane shrink-wrapped, so correct.Red dogs under illegal legs. She looks so good that he gets down and begs.[Chorus:]She is watching the detectives."ooh, he's so cute!"She is watching the detectiveswhen they shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot. They beat him up until the teardrops start, but he can't be wounded 'cause he's got no heart.Long shot of that jumping sign,Visible shivers running down my spine.Cut the baby taking off her clothes.Close-up of the sign that says,"We never close"You snatch a tune, you a match a cigarette,She pulls the eyes out with a face like a magnet.I don't know how much more of this I can take. She's filing her nails while they're dragging the lake.[Chorus]You think you're alone until you realize you're in it.Now fear is here to stay. Love is here for a visit. They call it instant justice when it's past the legal limit.Someone's scratching at the window. I wonder who is it?The detectives come to check if you belong to the parentswho are ready to hear the worst about their daughter's disappearance.Though it nearly took a miracle to get you to stay,it only took my little fingers to blow you away.Just like watching the detectives.Don't get cute!"It's just like watching the detectives.I get so angry when the teardrops start, but he can't be wounded 'cause he's got no heart.Watching the detectives. It's just like watching the detectives.

Great to see musicans playing with joy, rather than "attitude"

I miss "Spectacle." It was a great show. It seems as if every quality music show, e.g., NBC's "Night Music", "Sessions at West 54th", and this, doesn't last long on TV.

Copeland + Summers = great. Sting = not so great (yes, I'm being diplomatic). Strange to see E.C. playing with The Police, he was very vocal in his hatred for them back in the 70s / 80s...

anyone else think good, but too much drums, and theres no need for another bass player in the back

when sting's notes are sour, when other problems arise, just focus on copeland and everything comes up roses

On this episode of Spectacle, Elvis credits the Clash (SPECIFICALLY their cover of "Police & Thieves) for introducing Reggae into the punk/new wave genre and inspiring "Watching the Detectives". Sting then credits Elvis for the fact that the success of "Alison" gave him the confidence to bring "Roxanne" to Copeland and Stewart: type these into youtube search:Sting & Elvis Costello: "Roxanne" & "Alison" & Springsteen, Costello, Little Steven, Dave Grohl & Clash

Holy crap Elvis Costello backed by all three members of the Police on one of his most reggae-influenced songs! This was the last thing I expected to see.

"Police were important in the grand scheme of pop music, but lyrically there's no comparison...Just listen to Elvis's brilliant wordplay on "Detectives" compared to the " giant steps are what you take" nonsense..lol" Costello was important in the grand scheme of pop music, but musically there's no comparison...Just listen to The Polices brilliant musicality on "Walking..." compared to watching the detectives nonsense...lol.

If Joe Strummer was still with us ( RIPunk), it would've been great to have him on stage with the aforementioned Police and Costello, doing the Clash's" Police and Thieves" or "White Man in Hammersmith Palais" to tie up the reggae/punk influenced rock these guys pioneered back in the late 70s early 80s...Just a thought..( Then again, Strummer hated the Police more than Costello did, so maybe not)

Funny seeing them together playing this, when Elvis use to slag the Police off mercilessly back in the day when it was called "New Wave" ( He famously said " they're pretty, they can play, they make great pop records and I can't fucking stand them!") ...Musically both Costello and Police were important in the grand scheme of pop music, but lyrically there's no comparison...Just listen to Elvis's brilliant wordplay on "Detectives" compared to the " giant steps are what you take" nonsense..lol

Hooray thank you and very much agreed. Let's all Google away, and while we're at it, thank G*d we've not ALL got our "smug-self-satisfaction monitors" on. (It's how we see how dumb we think other people are!)
